So I was checking out some used cars in a car lot this evening with my fiance. The place was already closed but they have cars on displayed in the parking lot outside of the building. While checking out the cars I noticed that one of the cars still had the keys in the door! I was a little nervous taking the key out in case the alarm went off.

I carefully removed it because I didn't want to leave it in there only to have some boef steal it during the course of the night. I was going to call the owners on the emergency number that was printed on the dealership doors. At that point I noticed that there was a security guard on duty, so I approached him and first asked him name. Said his name was Jean. I then told him that I found these keys in on of the Toyota Yaris on display. He was VERY happy.

Hopefully he really was a security guard. If you guys hear about a white toyota yaris that was stolen from Kenilworth Macarthy Toyota then blame Jean :p

Yup, that seems to happen quite a bit...in our dealership we have already been told that you do that at your own peril as you won't have a job when you get back to work...

many years ago my brother and i were looking for a car for him and we also found a set of keys in the ignition of one of the cars.

yeah when we were in southbroom last year, we saw a car in the parking lot with the keys still in the ignition, and windows open. There was no one around. ( its a little back parking lot that opens directly onto the beach) So we walk onto the beach and find a couple sitting there. We asked them if that was their car, and if they were aware that they left their keys in the ignition. The man says in an Irish accent- Oh, I keep forgetting we are in South Africa. lol

Sad but true, in my hometown in Bulgaria they do the same. They park the car on the side of the road (city centre) with keys in the ignition and go do their thing.

Many years ago, my dad got a ticket in Fish Hoek for leaving his keys in the car. We had come down from Zambia on holiday, and as far as we were concerned the key was put in the ignition when you bought it new, and that's where it stayed!

yip many years ago Fish Hoek was the Jewel of Africa then i left there and it went downhill from that day forth.

Seems pretty damn safe now. Just full of old people (and consequently boring), but I guess that's what you mean :p

Fish Hoek was a huge retirement "village". My grandparents built one of the first houses there and it's still there today (lekker big double story). if you built a roof from the Clovelly side mountains to the Glencairn side of Fish Hoek you would have one massive old age home.

A non alcaholic one as well...no booze was part of the original sale o the land, and there are still no bottle stores in the area, though you are now allowed to order an "evil" drink at a restaurant...banned until about 15 years ago!

Relatives used to own that big Tudor House hotel thing there.

yeah when i turned 21 my boet and our friend took me to the Spur and you could only get a beer if you ordered a meal so it was 1 plate of chips and 3 beers, now remember i don't drink, so 1 beer and i was gone then they ordered another 2 after that and i was wrecked, walking all over the pavements like a crazy man.

Now you can understand why alcohol is banned in Fish Hoek! :p

I found keys in a BMW 318i's ignition at a dealership once. When I informed the owner he wasn't much phased about it...Kinda looked like he was battling to sell it and would've scored more off the insurance claim.
