Four killed in Evaton shooting

Four men were killed and four injured in a shooting in Evaton in the Vaal, on Monday, paramedics said.

"Paramedics arrived on the scene where the four men, including a security guard, were already dead," ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said.

Another man sustained critical injuries in the shooting and was taken to Sebokeng Hospital.

Three other security guards sustained moderate injuries from an alleged assault and were taken to Mediclinic Emfuleni.

SIX HELD FOR EVATON SHOOTING

Six men were arrested on Monday for allegedly shooting dead four men and injuring four others in Evaton, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

Members of two taxi associations arrived at the Palm Springs Mall and opened fire on one another with handguns and rifles, Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.

Three firearms were seized.

MORE ARRESTED IN MALL SHOOTING

Two more people were arrested for allegedly shooting dead four men and injuring others in Evaton, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said in total eight people were arrested on Monday for the shooting at Palm Springs mall.

"Three of these suspects were shot and wounded and are under police guard at the Sebokeng Hospital," he said in a statement.

"Eleven rifles and a hand gun were confiscated from security guards (Gumede Protection Service). The guards are alleged to have been employed by a taxi association operating from the Palm Springs shopping mall."

He said four minibus taxis were also impounded.

Dlamini said investigations would continue and the number of arrests may increase.

He said police would monitor the situation.
