Religious scholar Reza Aslan recently appeared on the FoxNews.com show Spirited Debate and the host insisted that his being a Muslim somehow affects the quality of his new book about Jesus. The whole ordeal was embarrassing for Fox News, but things are only going to get better from here for the author.

Aslan appeared on the online show on Friday to promote his new book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, about how the environment Jesus grew up in shaped him. But host Lauren Green didn't want to talk about the book so much as she wanted to talk about how Aslan is a Muslim. "You’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?" was Green's very first question. "Well, to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim," Aslan politely replied. Green doesn't give up, though, the interview goes downhill from there: link

Stupid interviewer keeps ragging him.

I wonder how his marriage works since he's muslim and she's a christian.

Edit: 4 minutes in and this is getting painful.

It's like Bill o'reilly is in her ear telling her to ask more stupid questions.

Faux News. Lamest network on the planet. Only slightly lamer than Russia Today.

Wow I used to think SA journalists interviewed poorly. This is on a whole other level. Well done to Reza Aslan for displaying such patience in the face of such obvious bias and bigotry. I'm not sure I would have hung around like he did.

He certainly tore strips off her while still seeming polite :p

I don't even want to watch it.

I despise bad interviews.

Fux news execs should really take a long, hard look at themselves.

Silly article, semantics.

By the final minute he is saying of himself (and who really talks this way!?) that “I’m actually quite a prominent Muslim thinker in the United States.”

Who talks this way? Errr, maybe someone who was just told that he's not revealed to people that he's Muslim?
Which as he said, was also mentioned in the 2nd page of the book.

I read his AMA on reddit.
Fox is a joke, however I found him to be vague on his own belief.

He was saying something about Buddha who said if you want a well you dig one six meter hole instead of 6 one meter holes.
Then he said that Islam was his six meter hole, and that they all lead to the same water..

I call bullsht. If you're going to choose a hole then why choose one with the most social issues? Why choose one that tramples on so many peoples rights? Why choose one that is so blatantly violent and intolerant?
Why choose one at all if there is nothing more special about one over the other?

Naa, fox had an agenda (poorly executed by incredibly stupid people) but he's not all that genuine either.

You should work for fox.
It wasn't about his personal views, it was about his research and findings.

I wasn't talking about his fox interview, nor his research and findings. I was talking about his personal view as stated on reddit.

He has an agenda, just like fox did. And just because fox is dumber doesnt make him more honest.
I'll still read his book tho, because unlike you I am able to consider all sides before jumping to the attack.

But everyone has contrasting views on certain topics. If someone works for BMW it doesnt mean they will always claim BMW is the best.
