Good day all. I just want to know from you guys what the difference in fps would be if I upgrade my cpu to the i5 760. I currently have...

i3 530
Gigabyte gtx 460 oc to 850
4 gigs DDR3 1333
550w PSU
Intel DH55TC

I'm currently getting 15-20fps on metro 2033 everything high with DX11
And 35-40Fps on operation flashpoint everything high. These fps are with fraps running.

What improvement would the upgrade yield?

Minimal to none in those games. They are far more dependant on the GPU than on the CPU, especially if you are running a resolution of 1920x1080 and up

I think there will be an increase of about 2-3 on average and 5fps max
Have you tried OCing your i3 a little and see what results you get?
If you wanna max out metro you need a 480 :)

Nope. FPS with a GTX480 is around 30, which is rather lacking for a first person shooter type game. You need at least two current gen GPUs to run Metro at max settings in DX11

Mmm.....from what I've heard the newer games are more cpu dependent. Like BFBC2 and the like.

So what you're saying is that its not worth the upgrade? Was gonna swop my i3 and put in 600 bucks.

I was seriously under the impression that it would be atleast a 10% improvement for dx11

Sigh

Although I agree.. I should have said *atleast* and we need to specify the resolution we gunna be playing at as well?
assuming 1920x1200 It does dip below the 30 mark but I would consider this playable...

Odd

I run metro on my XFX 9800GT and it runs fine and i only have a dual core 1.8ghz. I do put all the settings on medium and run at a res of 1680x1050 average between 30 and 47 fps. Games these day's doesnt utilize your cpu at all, it only gets used for the objects in the games mostly even the physics is done on the gpu now.

CPU: Dual Core 1.8ghz
Ram: 4GB DDR II 667
GFX: XFX 9800GT
Mobo: Intel crappy 667FSB mobo
Tested on windows 7

Playing a game that is DX11 capable with DX9 enabled is like taking a lambo to second gear....and running out of road. Its taunting you constantly.

Let me get this straight then.......I was told that my cpu would bottleneck my system gaming wise........and that I must upgrade to i5..........but now I'm being told it doesn't make a difference. Sigh. Or does it only take effect with console ports?
