Hey all... I'm planning to install a closed combustion stove, and have been looking particularly at the Franco Belge Etna 7 built-in unit. Also, I'll be building a brick chimney.
Now, nearly all the various fireplace shops around have different opinions regarding such an installation. For example, some say that the chimney should be built 200x200 with steel flue-liner.
Another says that no, flue-liner is not necessary, and only a piece of flue coming out of the stove (with the stove wrapped in a ceramic blanket) is required. Another says that flue-liner is costly, and a flue pipe should be taken all the way to the top of the chimney.
Then, one shop tells me that the Etna stove has problems with air-flow, so the key advantage of the stove of controlling the rate at which the fire burns is no more. He said the opening/closing the vents makes no difference, and the wood burns quickly regardless. He claimed to have raised the issue with the suppliers, but was apparently told that its the nature of the stove. Then he went on to tell me how the Nordica stove is far better with air-flow control, but the Crystal model with the same modern look is way more expensive, as its also a convection one.
Another says that they have received no complaints on the Etna, and it works just fine.
So is the one guy cooking up a story to sell a different brand? Or is he being honest and trying to give good advice based on client feedback.
Does anybody have any info or advice to share regarding any of this?
