Fraud on Huawei Account

A friend's mom is in her 80's in an oldage home. She gave her mom a phone and now there is an account for thousands of Rands from the Huawei Store on her cell phone account.

I suspect someone has been borrowing her sim card and using it in their phone, the reasons are that her mom's phone is a P8 lite 2017 and does not have the Huawei App Store installed.

I came across https://consumer.huawei.com/ph/comm...uest-an-in-app-puchase-refund/topicId_120860/ and they want a lot of details:
  • HUAWEI ID
  • App name
  • Product name
  • Huawei In-App Purchases transaction number (Go to Me > Account center > Payment and purchases > Purchase history to check. Please include a screenshot if possible.)
  • Problem description
  • Country/region
  • Contact information
  • If the app is a game, please also provide:
  • Game server
  • Character name/ID
But she doesn't have those details as her mom is a dementia patient and can't do much on a phone. Is there hope?
 
Always password protect your phone and even put one on your sim. The latter would have prevented the 'borrowing' of a sim. Since your friend's mom has dementia remembering a phone pin could be an issue, but she does not need to concern herself with sim password ever.
 
Thank you, the problem is the mom needs to know her pin to switch on her phone, can get confused and tell someone else the pin without realising it.

So a pin on the sim would not guarantee this would not have happened.

What would have been ideal is that MTN should not have given her a credit limit of thousands of rands because she is a pensioner and cannot afford to pay this account.

I'm sure it's part of the credit act that you cannot give someone more credit than they can afford to repay, going to look into that

Was the statement send by sms, email, on the app ?

Huawei Mate 50 and P60 are first phones with satellite com. With 30 free sms per month to begin with through Beidou satelite. No worry about lost signal, power outage. Mate 50 @ R12000 is a steal.
 
I see one of these Thuraya ads locally for 20K,hope they have sat signal here.
 
You will get signal anywhere on the surface of earth.
No, Thuraya satellite phone won’t work even close the equator if you’re in the Americas. Iridium, on the other hand, relies on satellites in polar orbits and should be usable everywhere, provided they have an unobstructed view of the sky.
For us it doesn't have signal(Thuraya) as well as Namibia.Seems Iridium has 66 satellites whereas Thuraya only two which are prob low orbit.
Iridium at 40k incl 500 African min for one year doesn't help the average Joe.
