Hi Everyone,

Hope someone can’t point us in the right direction?

Someone seems to have opened an MTN contract in my wife’s name...without her knowledge.

Last month a debit order came off her account. We called the bank they reversed it for us and supposedly blocked it and we tried to contact MTN, the only way seems to be via mail, we not having any luck.

This month it’s back and triple the amount it was last month.

I suppose the only solution is to go in store and into the bank...which we don’t really want to with Rhona being around...

I also have this problem, did you manage to sort it out?

Unfortunately not, I kept on fighting all the channels and had to keep on reversing the debit order at the bank. It eventually stopped happening. :(

How many months later? Im on month 2 and cannot get hold of anyone that can assist

Hi.
Please do not believe that the fact the debit order stopped this issue has been resolved.
I had a similar issue with a few years ago.
They will ITC list your wife for non-payment. (Have your wife check her credit score) You need to get hold of the Credit Ombudsman or/and ICASA and open a case.
This was the only way this got resolved in my case.
Good luck with this.

I agree, i'm currently on the same boat. I checked my credit record and indeed shows as being on MTN contract agreement. They are requesting for backing up documents for me to even quary this. Im pretty sure they didn't ask the Fraudsters all these questions.

One popped up in DebiCheck on my ABSA banking app. I declined it. Was for R550 per month.

I wish it provided more details so I could have opened a case of fraud.

Trying for months to get similar matter sorted. I was alerted to a fraudulent MTN account when I received a debi check notification from FNB. I immediately rejected it yet FNB keeps allowing this debit order to go off my account.

MTN is absolutely incompetent. The day after the contract was initiated. I went to MTN store and submitted affidavit, etc. They still failed to cancel the contract. MTN Fraud department only replied to my email 21 days later! And still have not cancelled the contract even though I sent them the requested documents; affidavit, etc.

FNB complaints department say they will investigate and give feedback. More than a month later and I’m still waiting.

Seems like MTN turns a blind eye to this fraudulent activity in the hopes of making more money.
Sadly crime and corruption wins yet again

An MTN operator at the Milnerton Paddocks branch tried to scam me today with an MTN SP DebìCheck debit order for R20,000. I Dclined the FNB consent request, and will follow this up.

Ive had the same problem. My contract expired last year and despite informing MTN on numerous occasions we have a debit order coming off every month. I bank with FNb and have also tried to get this Dr order cancelled but to no avail...teh dr. order just keeps on sneaking back... Ive never used the number that was given to us as we only required the device ...so haven't even used their data!! I have complained to their legal desk but just get automated chat bot responses all the time. What do we do..there's been so many complaints about MTN i see both here and in mainstream media.

Yoh, I stayed over near Milnerton for a night and used an MTN store in the area.
Maybe I should check my credit report.

I must be honest, MTN are pretty useless!

Still waiting for my double debit order to be resolved for NOV 2022

Sigh both of you are noobs, the amount that the "debicheck" is based on, is the credit MTN is willing to extend you. FYI the debicheck is there to confirm, A) Identity B) Make sure it is the correct account.

Much ado about nothing
