OK, since most of you are hanging out on this turf I thought it good to post this here since it will benefit most.

Check this deal out on Microsoft's website, i.e. eTrust EZ Antivirus from Computer Associates for 12 months.

(Mods, feel free to move the thread, no need to kill the AV business for the next 2,5 years... )

Thanks WebhostingTalk, thought I'll do some multi-threading ;) BTW, this is why I don't use AVG

AVG Free Edition is available free-of-charge to home users! AVG Free Edition is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only.
Use of AVG Free Edition within any organization or for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.

PS "...within any organization or for commercial purposes" I suppose if you are totally disorganized and not making any money you can use AVG...

Antivirus is one thing...is there any decent freeware internet security application (like Symantec or McAffee Internet Security suites)?

I use ESET's NOD32 for my antivirus, its not freeware, but its DAMN good!

Also for internet security I use Zone Alarm Professional and it works fine for me. I've run numerous tests that keep telling me my pc practically doesn't exist on the internet due to zone alarm's stealth modes. Make sit difficult for sniffers to even find you.

I second twizted_sc on Zone Alarm, best firewall software I've ever used...

When I used it it hampered my internet usage and destroyed my home network (didn't allow ICS between host and clients)!. Maybe it was an older version? Also isn't it pay software now?

Same reason i stopped using it and it has limited config options. I'm using Outpost now doing the job quite well and the config menu is better than most payed for walls.

Anyone wnat to tell me if I should stick to ZA Pro with Antivirus, or just use Avast and some other firewall. I find it easier to have the two incorperated as I also use Windows Defender (microsoft anti-spywar)

The Anti-virus on ZA is by Computer Assosiates if that helps at all. I'm assuming its worse than a full program ful AV liek Avast 4. But I like it combined, would there be any reason for me to change from ZA?

Also does anyone know if its worth it to get Avast! 4 Pro? It doesnt seem to have that may more features than the home edition.

Okay sorry to dump all my queries here, and this is in the wrong forum, but is NOD32 the best to use? or at least is it better than Avast? and how about AVG, i'm keen on the low recourse use.

Thanks alot

Okay I've done my own research, and I dumped Zone Alarm and Microsoft Antispyware for NOD 32 and Outpost firewall and antispyware.

Both of those new apps use very little memory/cpu, much less than even just ZA used to. ZA was also very slow with on-access scanning and I can now see the difference when opening apps like Words, Notepad even calculator. There used to be a delay with all these apps while I was using ZA pro with Anti-virus.

NOD 32 is pretty much undisputed as the best AV software, with Kaspersky close second or maby equal. Outpost is also great AV software with a bit more customizing ability than ZA. It also keeps my PC completley hidden on the web, and has optional ad-blocker and anti-spyware.

Computer Assosiates is the company who does ZA's Anti Virus in the ZA with anti virus version which I used to have. It is terrible (well better than some, but far off KAV or NOD32) at finding viruses and on access scanning and will no doubt slow down your system.

You could rather use AVG than EZ Trusts, or whatever Microsoft is offering you. Or just use NOD32 and a Firewall and some antispyware.
