Free Antivirus Software

my notebook came with a free 3 month Norton trial and after I installed AVG and guess what it picked up viruses also my laptop speed went up i occasionally scan it with other AV software just out of curiosity and so far no Virus infections as to spyware spybot 1.4 does a decent job i wouldnt advise MS anti Spyware it doesnt remove any MS related stuff like msn extras or the stuff in media player i also run an adaware scan every week, yes i`m paraniod lol but i`m online 80% of my time and dnt need the inconveniance of an attack and if u want some extra security ditch the windows firewall and get Zone Alarm or 1 of the other good free ones.

Yip also use avast, off all the anti virusses, they have the best newsgroup scanner IMHO. Most free antivirus proggies dont even bother to include a news article scanner. Now if you now of a good free anti spyware program (except microsoft), please feel free to share

1) I'm an AVG reseller, and I've never had issues at all with the software, especially not their corporate stuff. Runs like clockwork!
2) Great free spyware removal is SpyBot S&D. Got a whole whack of tools in advanced mode. (http://www.safer-networking.org/)

Yes, Norton sucks, 2003 was so much more bloated and resource hogging than 2002 and it gets worse every year.

I find AVG is good. (havent tried the others, so cant comment on them.)

And for spyware protection I use Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware SE, Spyware Blaster (it is more of a inoculation, doesn't do scans) and Microsoft AntiSpyware (which I schedule to do scans twice a week), the first two i do a scan with once a month.
