Any suggestions for decent Free backup software that works on 7 64x and ntfs external.

Indeed they are. I was not making a reference to AllWaySync in any way, but rather referring to Microsoft's SyncToy.

OK, just checking since it seemed you might have been trying to reference the two programs I mentioned.
AllWaySync is a very powerful program and it would usually be my first choice for all backup related needs, but for it's one weakness in the free department.

I have used FBackup successfully in the past to migrate data from one PC to another. It is also a good freeware backup software. Available here : http://www.fbackup.com/

I use comodo backup.. works quite well and runs in service mode without login in..

Try 2brightsparks syncback ..theres a free version. Works nicely for file backups, able to run as a service as well.
