Free broadband for the Western Cape progress

...and here in gauteng we are also proud, here we having the biggest gravy train in the country, maybe even in africa. Bigger achievement than you capetonian 's free internet.
 
I was in Joburg on Tuesday. Just the pathetic state of traffic signals in that city is enough to drive any person insane. Lights not working. Where signalised intersections used to be there are now four-way stops. The first thing I notice in any city to see if the city is well managed are traffic signals. It is a dead giveaway of the state of a city's municipal management ability. Dead lamps, poles lying flat with grass growing over them, poles not painted for years, stickers all over the equipment not removed ... etc ... etc. Joburg is a mess.

Why would Joburg need functioning traffic lights?
Even when the lights are working, they just ignore them.
 
If the DA were to take Joburg ... where would they start to fix things to make enough of a visible impact to get re-elected?

Here in CT when the DA took over they got rid of the senior managers who didn't produce results to that point and replaced them with competent people. And as if by magic those 90% incompetent staff members at the lower levels changed into stars in quick time.
 
Poor leadership and management skills at the top levels produce rubbish at the lower levels ... and those poor guys at the lower levels have no way in hell to make anything look/work better because the persons at the top can't even get the budgets sorted out to make resources available.

I have to admit that was one of the things that struck me when I was in Cape Town last month. Roads markings were everywhere. I think it might just be because I am so used to Joburg where the markings are noramlly so faded or non existant...that it actually looked like it was painted just the day before.

Did not come accross a single robot that was not working. I saw very little litter and all the grass and hedges were trimmed and neat. I saw guys cutting the grass here on our highways now for the first time since simmer started....will only see them again next year I guess. Also I actually saw people picking up litter in Cape Town.

One thing that bugged me....WTF is up with the toilets in your malls. Is was frekking gross man! ppppppppeeeeee weeeeehhhh!!!!!! It might have been that tummy bug that was going around though lol.

All in all....I was just majorly impressed with Cape Town. It was a pleasure through and through. It does make one realise what a shocking state our roads are in here in Joburg. Even our highways feels bumpy compared to the ones in Cape Town.
 
Ockie, our public toilets are custom made to be that way to make tourists from elsewhere feel at home.

What I found quite startling in Joburg was the state of the verges/sidewalks. Either no grass or overgrown grass. Very weird

It is actually really as simple as eliminating corruption and installing proper management. Clamping down on corruption and cleaning up the tender process would mean that the money stolen or wasted could now be allocated to service delivery. A proper management layer could then use the full budget to ensure proper service delivery by service providers who are capable of delivery and bound to that delivery by proper contracts.

Sounds like a pipe dream? It's basically what happened in the Western Cape.
