Hi

I am currently busy with my masters thesis and need to do a number of in-depth interviews.

Is there any software or a service that I can use to automatically transcribe voice audio files into text?
Or an app that can do it on the fly.

Preferably one that someone has used before and has found to be reliable. Have tried a couple of apps, but they seem to be rubbish

thanks in advance.

What varsity are you at? UKZN has Nvivo on their software repository. Most varsities have either that or Atlas.ti free for students.

On a sidenote, you will have to manually transcibe everything. Don't be lazy. 5min of talk should only take 30min of typing. Part of the whole immersion process. You could also try Dragon but I have had limited success for voices that were not mine - was not worth the time investment to get it up and going for transciptions

I'm at UCT.

Interviews are at least 30 min. So doing 10 interviews and transcribing each while working full time is time consuming and not an efficient use of my time.

I should have mentioned that this is a part time course, that I am doing while working full time. So laziness has nothing to do with it. I just want to find how I can utilise my time more effectively, rather than spending hours upon hours transcribing.

Thanks for the comment though. Looks like UCT has Nvivo in the software depository

I would invest a few bucks into a foot pedal or just do a quick search into defining the hotkeys for slowing down talking and pausing. I feel your pain, worked full time and had to transcible 6hours of focus groups after work. Takes a long time but no real way around it - and my supervisor would have never forgiven me if I did not do it myself, it kind of defeats the immersion process
