Free DNS and Dynamic DNS

they all work the same to be honest, they just use diff methods of updating. dyndns.org is still king

zonedit.com

Zonedit.com is also a great site for DNS management.

I've been using FreeDNS (http://freedns.afraid.org/) for 468 days now with zero seconds downtime! I'm doing DNS for 5 domains completely free!

If you have problems setting it up, let me know... I can help you out!

mmm ok im having a problem with Dyndns.org, My IP address keeps on changing and this i can't let happen due to the fact that i have set up a VPN between Jhb and Durban. The software I used for the VPN is Opensource VPN. Any solutions on keeping the ADSL IP Static.

If you're on a SAIX account the IP is assigned by Telkom, so you can't make it static. Do you have a custom DNS zone or a free entry?

On my Custom DNS I made sure my TTL on my IP is 60s (meaning it's effectively not cached) and that DDClient on my Linux box checks every 5 mins for a change in IP on my PPP interface. My links tend to go down only for short periods of time, then.

Also, since I use Linux PPPoE I configured my link to drop just before midnight, and to re-dial just after midnight, so barring any unexpected outages, I know exactly when my link will be up/down and can plan accordingly.

[EDIT] Oh, yes, I use OpenVPN (http://openvpn.net) and it handles my IP changes fine. I have even transferred files with SCP via the VPN link and it didn't abort when my router re-connected
