The Nokia Navigator 6210 now comes with 2 years of free navigation. Does anyone know if this applies only to new phones/particular new phones or to anyone who hasn't activated their license?

New stock only according to some Nokia reps. It's based on the IMEI, so it doesn't matter if you haven't activated it yet. If in doubt, beg and plead with the Nokia Care line ;)

Ok, so if someone orders one tomorrow, say, it will be new stock and can check the IMEI (if the deal is not written on the box) with Nokia?

Tomorrow the new pricing is in the catalogs for Vodacom outlets. (I've seen it already :))

I've done a little more checking on this.

It only applies to brand new stock because the data card supplied has the new Nokia 3.0 maps on it. "If you get old stock, then that's life" - as the guy said to me.

I tried to get a comment from Nokia, but their phones are off the hook today.

There's a rumour that you can take an old Nokia 6210, pay some money (R400) and get the new maps with the 2-year license, but I need to confirm this.

Be advised that a brand new Navigator model is coming out soon. The 6710 - also with Maps 3.0 and Wifi.

I loaded GarminXT onto my 6210 Navigator :) working great. Nokia maps is totally crap as it needs to connect to the internet to do searches for adresses.

They now have Nokia Maps 3.0, which have the 3D landmarks I believe. Perhaps they've improved other things.

You can turn off the assisted GPS function, but you would get a fix quicker. I don't know how much data is used, but surely it isn't that much. Maybe someone could test on a particular route?

To add to the pool of knowledge, I've discovered that NOKIA has had this 24 month license release since the beginning of March, but it's a secret. The motive being to clear shops of old stock.

The boxes will have a little sticker on them and the license period written on the side. Activating uses your IMEI number (as Wolfbyte says).

To buy more turn-by-turn time you would have to pay R900 for another year.
Also don't bother calling the NOKIA SUPPORT line from a Telkom phone, because it will always be engaged. Cellphones only!
