FREE PC anti-virus recommendations?

It's all about having knowledge of what you are installing together with a bit of common sense. They would only be able to access you PC if you give them permission, so in essence your conclusion is incorrect.

Which makes my point. The real threat is not viruses, the threat is ignorant users, and that cannot be fixed by an antivirus program.

The is my choice.I have picked up lots of malware with MSE until you do an independent scan when you find that your notebook/Desktop has had malware for whatever duration!I also run S&D to ensure that no malware has infected the system.
The comodo system also has a firewall.
CCleaner is also my companion which is run regularly.

For those running MSE please run either Malwarebytes or Search&Destroy Both are free.I have run MSE for a few years but also run a weekly scan using both MSE and Malwarebytes.MSE would come up system is clean whereas Malwarebytes would report malware alarms.I have read somewhere that MSE will be discontinued.I have since switched to Comodo Internet Security as an active monitor
and run Search&Destroy weekly scan to pick up any missed by the free active monitor.

I honestly don't get why people not only use but recommend MSE, it's rated as "baseline" buy MOST if not all independent anti virus testing labs.


Like I always say, if you want free, go avast or if avast is too complicated or annoying to use, then use bitdefender free as it just quietly does its job with no pop ups or configuration, just COMPLETELY 100% automatic.

I won't bother giving a review for avast as we all know that it is good, so here's a pcmag review of bitdefender free:

I haven't had a virus in years, since I started using Avast. It's just the best at prevention.

What I can't understand is why some people refuse to pay for antivirus. Kaspersky Internet Security is pretty cheap, and the best option out there.

I agree, but I suppose if free is sufficient for you then why go paid.

Though I myself use a paid security suit (Norton 360) as it has (according to real world testing) The best protection on the market along with kaspersky and has automatic system cleaning, defraging and resource monitoring. Which I definitely do use.
