Free Pdf Creating Software

Anyone out there know of any good PDF creating software that gives good quality at awesome compression?

I have about 400 old black & White periodicals from the 60's and 70's that I have been scanning, I use a Canon 4400F scanner, not bad, but I am not mad about the software with it and use Paintshop pro to import and crop currently..... this is very time consuming.... once I scan the image, I resize it and use nitropdf..... but I tend to find that the file size of the pdf is rather large and in general the entire process is taking rather long....

Any alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

I think I tried it. Is this the trial version that limits the number of pages you can scan/save?

Might not even be a viable option, but you can try CamScanner on your cellphone. Pretty good app.

EDIT: Now I am curious to know how well it would compare

I've been using Bullzip to print anything to PDF and PDF-XChange Viewer for viewing and filling in forms.

I use cutepdf for printing to pdf... PDF-XChange is very handy to add document security(passwords) and edit documents...
