I'm looking for a very simple/basic/easy FTP Server for Win7 thats is free.

Once of usage to transfer a couple of files so I don't wnat to mess with endless configs etc to get it running.

Win 7 has IIS7 built in, I haven't yet used the ftp server but if its anything like IIS6 then it should be easy to setup.

Just tried this, it is easy.
Under 'Programs and Features' select 'Turn Windows features on or off'.
Under Internet Information Services, select:
FTP Server -> FTP Service
Web Management Tools -> IIS Management Console

Settings are configured through the IIS Manager in administrative tools.

Ok, tried it & it did not work, even after I disabled the win firewall.

Filezilla I have tried before but never got it to run.

I will never ever use Windows FTP again IN MY LIFE! Trust me just stick to FileZilla...dirt easy to configure and you'll never ever regret it.

OK, so why don't you enlighten us?

Need to get files off a Linux laptop that is wonky.
USB is not working so not an option.
The repos are months out of date and installing samba will cause conflicts which I'm not prepared to waste bandwith on.
DVD is to small & slow.
Cannot remove the HD as Windows cannot read XFS FS or most other file systems.
I can do FTP from the laptop, hence I need a FTP server on the Win7 machine.

Linux livecd is best option, if you have one.

If you HFS a file on the windows system, can you wget it from the laptop? If not there might be network config issues, which would explain ftp not working either...

Ja... the LiveCD option... take the drive out and put in your Windows machine, then just boot the windows machine with a LiveCD and mount the volume. Copy the files off from there.
