I have a 2kw inverter generator (red suitcase type), which ran beautifully since March. Electrician installed the bypass that also excludes stove, geyser and pool pump. Eskom couldn't get me down. Recently, the generator would start to struggle after about 10-20 minutes, dropping revs enough for home lights to start dimming etc. I would drop everything using the distribution board's trip switches, and it would pick up revs to normal speed again, repeating the cycle every 10-20 minutes. I even bought a wiz-kid power meter to test which plug is causing the issue.
Last night I came across an article describing how inverter generators overheating would drop output or some such thing. Took the generator out of the dog box it was in, so it is in open air. Problem solved.
So gents' basically, check that your generator has ENOUGH moving air now that summer is here.
