My mother in law currently resides in an old age home and gets DSTV through a central “supplier”. She has her own DSTV decoder for this and we pay a monthly subscription for the DSTV access. If we were to cancel the DSTV, can she still get the free to air channels through the DSTC decoder? And if not, how do we go about getting just those? Thank you

Look at DStv's EasyView package - just R30 p/m. May do enough for your needs?

Else you would need to get an OpenViewHD decoder for her (initial decoder cost, but no subscription costs).

Doubt I can help further.

Can no longer find EasyView package details on their website, and it's not in their compare section either.
Interesting...

Anyway, still available and here's the details:

Thanks Brian. I was wondering if we would get any of the SABC programs if we disconnected the DSTV programs.

Sorry not to have made that clear - no, DStv decoders haven't been capable of tuning into any free-to-air (FTA) options for many years now.
