"Free" Vodacom Internet!

One of my mates uses his 3G handset to connect to MSN on his pc, and he sends voiceclips and webcam and has video calls etc and his airtime is never affected
 
Heard something about free internet too. I know it's possible. Not to sure if it's legal or a hole or what, but I know it's there.
 
Its a hole, was fixed but seems only partly if you can browse for free out of the vlive portal. I would say its dishonest to use that loophole I pay for my data, but of couse you always get the freeloaders.
 
i've been using GPRS/3g for what 3 years now.. lol. Its not free..

I also have a 3g-enabled handset, and i get a bill at the end of each month for data-usage.. (i'm not using a bundle). So i pay R2 per meg too

If you visit vodafone website, its free.. but if you download or surf other pages they charge you
 
:eek: I remember 3 years ago it was R20 per meg I decided to check it out. I quickly switched back to dailup after my bill arrived.
 
If you read the thread you will see that we know it's not free. Instead it's a securty hole that some manipulate to get free internet.

It's not a loophole. Vodacoms intention is for customers to browse the internet for free with their WAP browser. 3'rd party apps cannot be used.

Thats not what they advertise.
You can browse the vlive portal thats free, content you pay for and as soon as you leave the vlive portal meaning the internet in general you get billed per meg.
 
This wap browser that you speak of, is it for phone use only or is it something that can be installed on your computer?

With WAP u pay per minute(like a dailup almost) yes you can download like hell then.. cause u pay per minute use.. not per Data-usage.
 
Ok that's fine and all. What I've heard from multiple sources is that there is some way that you can get free internet on your computer with some software.

Great you don't have to believe me, that just means fewer people will know about it and it will probably go on for longer. If you phoned them and asked them if they give free internet, what do you think they going to say? I'm sure that if they know about it then they would want fewer people to know about it and if they didn't they would say no anyway.

Ok so AFAIK WAP is a browser protocol.
Like dailup on a cell phone would be CSD which is 9.6 kilobits how do you download like hell on that.

Am I missing something ?

WAP is a protocal like HTTP, WAP can be browsed by WAP enabled phones via CSD, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA or what ever else you can connect though. I.E. if you choose to browse WAP though CSD then you'll be billed for the call and it will be hell slow. If you choose to use HSDPA it'll be really fast and apparently you can browse the vlive portal for free.

This "free" internet that everyone is on about I assume is some kind of exploit on the portal whereby you can trick the service provider that you are browsing portal content, probably by pulling pages into the portal or something.

Still useless if you decide to download your email or get that new mp3.
 
Carl there use to be a loophole which was subsequently fixed by vodacom were you could browse and download for free using the vlive APN.

How do these guys figure out the loopholes?
It cant just be random/accident - there must be a method behind it?
