'FREE WINDOWS 7 UPGRADE? Did u get?"

So, if you've purchased a new computer recently (after Jun26) with Vista installed, have you received your 'free' Windows7 upgrade yet?
I purchased about 10 eligible laptops after 26 Jun (HP 2230s and Compaq 610) with Vista Biz on.... so went to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade-option.aspx
to get Win7 upgrade.
Apparently there was 'supposed' to be a Win7 upgrade coupon in the laptop packaging. None in any of the boxes I got. Looks like HP SA is screwing us over.
So all HP is giving me in terms of Win7 upgrade, is a big fat F* U
Cost = $39

Win7 is out already, but the new laptops I need buy still no Win7 option....

there is a few laptops and desktops that are already coming with windows 7 but as to the free upgrade that is an interesting question what happened to it and if it is out is there anyone on here that got it and how did you get it? did you have to download the ISO?

I wonder if it's possible to use the upgrade on another PC instead of the one it's intended for?

mine is supposed to come from sony, havent received anything yet

dude ........, go to HP site, they have an upgrade site and you put the serial and tag in of ur laptop. They send u the cd's

It like u get WinXp with the Vista version... I'm sure MS will frown on u for using both, sure one replaces the other... only 1 legal liksens

This coupon thing work for all makes?

Mom and stepfather bought Viao's after that date. Dunno if they got the coupon, but hopefully that's an HP thing and Sony is a different

K so my "Free Windows 7 Upgrade" is going to cost me $39.00...

So ...Am I allowed to pirate this now that I technically have a legal version? sorta :p

I've got the same problem except with Acer they charge you $50. I'm so hitting uTorrent tonight

if u follow the microsoft link up top, it looks like most makes are (supposedly) included in the upgrade option.

sure $39 or even $50 is probly not thaaaat expensive for a Windows 7 copy, but still, its the thought that counts.... (remember when I told u "don't wait for Win7 release before buy new lap, don't worry, u can get free upgrade"..... well, I lied....)

oh well, so much for that I guess.
the 'free' upgrade is probly not gonna happen..... looking at a few sites, I see the upgrade is offered free or at "little"/"reduced" cost... so given a choice, especially in ZA the big companies will lean towards "reduced" cost... giving the consumer anything for free is not popular here

I've ordered my *free* (read: cheap) Win7 upgrade from Dell. Paid R300 shipping+taxes :|
Better than full price of the upgrade though I guess!

yeah, cheaper is better than full price.... was gonna order normal full product, coz I gotta for the laptops bought before June anyways, then I remembered the 'free' upgrade. No desire to get into "alternative" copies, especially not for the office pcs
just waiting to hear what supplier can do
but then I want new laptops with Win7 pre-installed

Well I also didn't get my coupon when I brought my BenQ lappie...then I googled a bit and BenQ actually had a little newsletter stating you juts need to pay like 70 bucks and they will give you the coupon (justified as the cd and delivery fee).

So I got my coupon...Win7 should be here soon :D

Damn guys i just purchased 3 x Compaq 615's with Vista business. The site says

"We are sorry, but the Model Number you have entered is not listed in our database"

M$ site reckons this models eligible for the upgrade.
