Free2view is up and running.

Got word that ICASA might block / shut down free2view in SA.. any truth here? I heard ICASA is quite strict with what roams the *AIR* ... any ideas? let say we all buy decoders and they block signal ? :erm:

There is no way to stop a signal uplinked from another country...unless you cover SA with a moerse tinfoil or something.

F2v is not a SA service its an African one.Online shop will be operated from Botswanna, with shipping throughout Africa.

@ Just Ask

Have you got confirmation for this - link?

The funny thing is...ODM will use videoguard too...from the same satellite...but you'll have to purchase their box too as they will broadcast in dvb-s2.Word on the street is they launch in April.Their test feeds is active too.

Where did you purchase the Dreambox DM8000 HD PVR? Doesn't it allow CAMs to be plugged in for all the decryption out there? From what I have seen it is the brand to get. What's stopping me is the lack of content beamed over SA.

I'm almost tempted to cancell my DStv for this ... I'll put my savings of R500 p/m into buying DVD's I want. @ least I can watch the repeats I want when I want, whilst still having something to watch (all be it not too good) on free2view.

Much like I hate to say this, there's no point in cancelling DSTV until we see what else is on offer. SABC Sucks. Etv's movies are ancient, and R 500 doesn't buy much in the way of either DVD's or DVD rentals - particularly if you want to watch a series, and if you're watching sports, going to a sports bar will cost more than DSTV after just a few games.

I want to see if Freeview ever gets off the ground - sounds to good to be true - someone has to pay for the sattellite bandwidth which is not cheap, and unless it's being paid for by a philanthropic govt, or rich individual, or even paid advertising (who will want solid viewer figures), there's no hope for long term success.

Thank you zambussi. I've been quiet on this subject for a while, because JustAsk is obviously somehow involved with F2V. He does not like bad things being said about them.

They are not off the ground. They are not even on the runway. I was also told that they want quite a large amount for distributorship of their product. Obviously to keep the cash flow going, while they try to make this crazy business model work. They will have to get their numbers up very quickly, if they want to get advertisers interested.

And how the fck am i involved with f2v.

You can badmouth them as long as you stick to facts and not dstv fanboism. You have a vested interest into badmouth anything non monochoice.

Jou dstv onderrok sleep op die grond man.

:D

You should stick to the facts. I am just being realistic. It seems like you know a lot about F2V and you are pretty touchy on the subject... with your personal attacks and all.

If F2V makes it commercially, I will eat my "dstv onderrok" and promote their service too. It will be great if it works out for them, but I don't see how they can provide quality programming with their "advertising will pay for the service" model. ODM on the other hand, will probably become a popular service and over a long time, if managed correctly, become a strong player.

Yes...i know a bit about general fta on many satellites...which is a lot more than you.Its a hobby.

You seemed to have a difficulty comparing apples with apples.

1 ODM IS NOT IN DIRECT COMPETITION WITH MONOCHOICE.
2 F2V IS NOT A SOUTH AFRICAN SERVICE.

Btw...i also know more about ODM than you...does that mean i work for them too.

You think you know more...

I never said F2V was a South African service and I was not comparing the services. I was talking about how successful they will be as satellite television service providers, which they all are. If you want to make fruit analogies, I would say MC is the apple, ODM is a pear and F2V is a turksvy. I just want you to tell me, why you think F2V will be successful in what they are trying to do.

Does anyone know where one can buy this decoder and smart card? I see the .co.za website is updated so I assume that F2V is up and running?

Channels

Confirmation about what? Sorry you didn't specify.
They will use videoguard...it shows on receiver.
same satellite...yes
they will use dvb-s2...currently in use.
launch in April...this i can't say for sure.Heard this from a techie that works with them...hence the "word on the street"
test feeds active...yes,currently 8 channels.2 is open showing...wait for it...sabc2/3:D Sometimes love and god channel.Others are nds locked.

I believe 40 to 60 channels, SABC is a icasa requirement.

On OMD (TOPTV) We will have choice, not like MONOCHOICE. It starts at R99 and ends at R250, and there's 7 choices in between.

F2V on the otherhand, will be a once off mistake and, not a monthly R500 mistake if it flops. I'm willing to take the jump.

hehehe

I wanted to pre order their decoder this morning JustAsk..

But they didn't give me a reference number. So I emailed them about it. Lots of scam companies don't give u reference numbers, that is an easy way to see if they are legit or not.

Anyway the person replied quickly (even on a sunday). And said I "Could" use my checkout number as reference.
And they don't provide us with satelites you can use any satelite with their decoder.

Too bad I just got a R1k fine for some traffic violation, I will have to buy my decoder next month.

Anyone ordered theirs yet?
