I am looking to get started as a freelance developer. I have been employed as a developer for many years and would like to use my knowledge to start a freelance business on the side. Thing is, I have no portfolio that I can use as I have only done work for my employers. Would appreciate any tips on getting started and getting clients.

Thanks!

What type of development do you do?

I am a full stack developer so everything from SQL to mobile apps and everything in between
I suggest building a few tech demos then. Apps, web pages, DBs, etc. possibly allowing a kind of admin mode so that someone interested can see things, like query response, diagnostics, see the database schemas, queries strings, etc. whatever you think you’re best app.

Either build some demo stuff to showcase your array of skills and/or seek some people out and do your first project cheaper than usual. This is what I did many moons ago and with about 10 clients I managed to run a pretty nice sideline business for myself.
