freenode Issues

Hi, I am having serious problems using irc.freenode.net on my Ubuntu machine (tried ircII and xChat). It seems that I cannot get a proper connection at all - I get message minutes later and sometimes the connection simpy fails. During this time, all other internet related connections (email, Skype, browser, etc) work, so I am sure that I have internet connectivity.

What could be the issues for this?

Actually all international IRC servers seem really slow.

Anyone have any ideas on this?
