Hi

Can a freeview tuner decoder from the UK be used to pick up digital TV in South Africa?

What digital terrestrial TV? First we need it being broadcast, then we can worry about what decoders are compatible.

The reason I ask is I am looking for a DVD\hard drive recorder - found a Wharfedale 160gb DVD\hdd recorder from www.expansys.co.za with builtin freeview tuner and hdmi upscaling not bad for R1000.

Even the SABC 'free' digital terrestrial will probably have encryption and need a smartcard... Well I'm guessing :)

Unfortunately FreeView wont work in S.A. Most LCD TV's, DVD/HDD recorders etc. here come with FreeView built-in. The device will work in S.A. but the FreeView won't.

We'll more than likely be using a different standard to the UK so the answer will more than likely be no.. regardless of what encryption and other nonsense they put on the signal
