I have finally given up and allowed the 3-year old computer genius in the house sole custody of the iPad ("Honey, I really need an iPad2 of my own now"). All my apps off, all his apps on.

But tracking down all the app icons several times a day and putting back in some semblance of order is getting a bit old. Does anyone know a way (preferably non-JB) to lock those icons down into position and make them immoveable without a password?

Thanks in advance

I don't know of a way to lock position but to stop inadvertent deletion - Settings - General - Restrictions.

Then enable restrictions and toggle "Deleting Apps" to off.

Edit: like Bwana said :p
No there is no way to do this without JB. The best you can do is prevent him/her from deleting apps.

Thanks, bwana and Synaesthesia. Yes, I found that restriction, also the way to stop in-app purchases and so on. I guess I will just have to keep on figuring out where he hid the Talking Tom icon this time. If it really gets bad I'll just try restoring from backup.

@The_Librarian: after some of the arguments I've had in this forum, the sight of me buying anything non-Apple might ignite a war. So, purely in the interest of world peace ... no knockoffs.

Well if it's on the iPad, you can always find it with spotlight search.
