Hi there

On what % setting are your freezer operating on?

There have to be a sweet spot where you can balance electricity consumption with the coldness of your freezer. Too cold, and you waste electricity, too warm, and your food doesn't freeze properly.

The one chest freezer of ours seems to be running 24x7 atm, and I don't think it is correct - it just gobbles electricity. It should cool the insides down enough for stuff to be frozen and then stop, not just keep on running in an effort to freeze everything close to absolute zero.

Let's hear it from you guys.

I will check out on our freezers tonight and post the make, model and freezer temperature settings, so we can start comparing. (and hopefully save a bit more electricity).

Regards

Libs

That doesnt sound right at all. Try turning the thermostat up a bit (warmer not colder) and just check the thermostat is working. I had a thermostat go on my freezer once and it also ran 24/7. :(

Also keep in mind to defrost your fridges and freezers about once a year. To do it properly you have to move everything out of the unit, switch it off and leave it open for about 24hrs.

We always used to just steam off the ice inside the units, but over a few years there was a build up of ice between the freezer (at the bottom) and the fridge part at the top, causing the unit to also run 24/7 and the fridge section to warm up. I thought the unit needed regassing or something but after leaving it open for 24hrs it now works as good as new. (Probably runs about 4 hrs per day and the fridge cools the beers to a perfect temperature!)

Oh, and also, clean the heat exchanger at the back of the fridge/freezer regularly as well - that also helps efficiency.
