Frequent Disconnects

changed my dial-up number to another one from Mweb and problems stopped. i also moved my PC to the garage and now have a RJ45 all the way to the ISDN box from my modem. Whatever i did it aint dropping the line no more.

Tonight I am also busy trying out another number from MWeb after complaining to them about the disconnects.

:( Ok , so SlowKom's ISDN Technical services tested my line and found nothing wrong. According to them its the ISP's. Funny how the ISP's deny and say its the line ????

I think were being conned into going for capped crap out of frustration:mad:

:o Maybe my pc was on the blink ???

I formatted on wednesday night late and have had steady speeds and no disconnects yet???

Holding thumbs that it wont drop over the weekend..if so I owe a Telkom Techy and apologie for my being mean and obnoxious...and throwing my toys out of the cot at his boss:o !!

I connected on Saturday morning 01h00 to download drivers. From then until last night (Sunday - 23h00) I've had about 6 disconnects from my ISP(Storm), where the line is just suddenly being dropped. Needless to say this was very frustrating.

My updated drivers cost me:
R8-R9 infinitcall dial-up * 6 disconnects = R48 - R54 + rebooting and connecting after driver installs.

So everything cost me roundabout R100 to download this weekend.....
Money in the bank for TELSCUM.

i had to re-install my windows XP due to an upgrade and connected on Friday evening, come the early morning i pop back to the PC and line has been dropped. Did the same when i left the PC on idle for the afternoon on Saturday.

Checked drivers, IE settings, etc. Finally i got hold of Connection Keeper after googling for software and it seems to have sorted out my lines being dropped during idle times.

But like Vexx007 stated, it must have cost me over R50 over the weekend just to figure it out. sigh....

Thanks for the tip useless. Downloading Connection Keeper now. Will post back my findings.

wat on earth does that have to do with infincall disconnections

you are not serious? it keeps you CONNECTED doh!

i have noticed something unusual.

my ISDN box has two RJ45 ports and occasionaly i re-connect my network cable to the port i least use since once a week i remove it due to the maid. Dont ask.

when its connected to the port i least use is when i get the most disconnects, so when my blonde moment passes i place it into the normaly used RJ45 port and have no issues with disconnects.

is it me or shouldnt both RJ45 ports function the same? anyways, it seems i have found my disconnect problem and been downloading without hassles in the past 3 days.

 I've never changed my RJ plugs before but I assume it shouldn't make a difference.

I have noticed that I haven't had a disconnect since Friday last week. I downloaded all weekend and last night without any hassle.

Its seems the network is very flaky (TelkomInternet is my ISP) at times but when it works it works :)

I wonder how many ISDN users there are out there and how many actually get their (theoretical) 24 gigs a month with infinitcall ??

BTW P2P is still better than connection keeper for keeping the connection active when your not there.

At this point despite the disconnects its still better than adsl and the cap.

i havent used connection keeper since discovered my own blunder. as for teh 24gb per month...i can safely assume i do at least 5GB per week, so i am not too far from 24GB... :D

You know, now why didnt I think of that? :D Im going to uninstall Connection Keeper right now. P2P will keep my connection alive from now on :D

As for the the frequent disconnects, I've been disconnected 3 times this week, and that will be everytime I've been on the web. Im starting to think that I just have a crappy copper line installed.
