Frequent Disconnects

Hi Debbie2

It sounds like a good plan.......but.....despite their own wonderful service claims they always manage to squirm out of it when the threats are looming by invoking their "best effort" clause. Frankly I tend to agree with Mook.

Imho ICASA are toothless puppies and as for the small claims court process....lets rather not go there.

I know I complain a lot and it seems that I could possible get some attention on the problem but frankly I personally don't relish the thought of confrontation with basically the only real service provider in my home town. My mental health is just as important as this could potentially get very ugly as I am basically working hard on anger management when it comes to telco's

After all, if I have a problem I still need their help.

Hopefully were soon in for some relief

 Disconnected again at 9pm, 11pm and 2am Monday evening (15 May 2006). After a 2nd trouble free weekend it seems that the main problem is in the week. Thanks Ivy for providing an unreliable, costly, pathetic service.

Hi All

Penny for your thoughts. I have a phone connected to my TA that may be on the blink. Could a cr@ppy phone (even when not in use) cause a disconnect problem. The reason I asked is because when I was disconnected about 5minutes ago the dial tone did not return. I had to basically power off the TA as well as my pc for dial tone to return?

Any thoughts?

 Blikkies..my ISDN line eventually gave in and was down for like 4 days! Thank heavens I have 3g and ADSL as well!

To cut a long story short, Slowskommel finally traced the fault to a earthing, rusted connection screw at the exchange and had to replace a ton of other bits and pieces (according to the Techy who seemed quite honest and helpfull).

Lets see what happens now, if the random disconnections stop:confused:

 Too good to last! Disconnected at 7:40pm and then again at 9:30pm. Looks like I'll have to do my Unisa studies by pigeon mail or go to a real Library:eek: oh and BTW email is down this morning so I couldn't submit my assignment. Will hold Telskommel liable if I fail !

Such bad luck BTech. We had the same problem. I LOVED my ISDN line but the disconnects caused my old man to totally lose it in the end and we now try iBurst... he is happy and i am having withdrawal symptoms

One week and counting no disconnects:eek: Speed a constant 15.3Kbps and no degredation after 12hrs !! Btw achieved 22GB unshaped intl this month despite all my drama:D

Since I phoned and applied for ADSL on the 18th of April, I haven't had a single random disconnect!! (I used to have a lot, look back in this thread)

Coincidince?? (Spelling) or part of some evil plot?

Still waiting for the ADSL BTW, now nearly 8 weeks and all bulldust stories from SA's favourite telecoms provider....

Hang in there. I waited 1.5 years before they installed my ISDN.
I've just ordered ADSL and the funny thing is I live in the sticks. Closest town is about 25km away. Maybe all the farmers in the area need ADSL nowdays. :p

Paul

Paul_S...I suppose another 3 years won't make any difference...Yes with the latest techo farmers do need it ...My exchange is about 8 kms away and is abled but they say the lines are no good...

PS:squirrel..Just about (Rural area)...Farmland...A lot of Farmers use the latest techo so ADSL is definitly in demand or wireless (If there's coverage)...

:D Line Fixed again!

Telskommel Techy just told me someone stole the cable. He is furious because it took him four hours to lay a new one and rewire the mess:mad:

He said he only sees a future for wireless in JHB because of the theft cr@p.

Haven't had line drops, despite the slow connections a while back. I'm using ZAPro as firewall and set it to block all ping requests from the sperm bank, therefore they don't know I'm here...
Worth a try with your firewall

I have had my dialup line drop, but never ADSL

I don't know what's happened the last 8 months with my connection.

Last year, I get 120 ping in UT04 and just about never disconnect.

Since beginning this year, I get 180 ping in UT and I've got disconnected 3 times already this weekend. It's a constant pain to me and my wallet.

Just thought I'd share the crap I'm dealing with.

Hopefully getting my ADSL at the end of this month. :D

PS. Last year I would connect at 46.6K, now I only connect at 44K or less. I'm with Atlantic as ISP.
