Hi All,

As the subject says, I get these frequent in both shoulders, in fact the reason why im posting about this is that it happened this morning again, and it's getting easier and easier to dislocate than before, I'm starting to suspect I was born this way as I've never really injured my shoulders in rugby etc although it couldve probably contributed towards my dislocations.

I'm practically double jointed everywhere, my arms, even my knees have dislocated before, but my knees seems to have sorted itself out over the years thanks to excercise but obviously nothing works for my shoulders. It is really starting to limit me with excercises and sports, for instance this morning I woke up and stretched and it popped out, not really how I'd like to wake up in the morning but anyway...

A school friend whom I used to play rugby with actually injured his shoulders in rugby and under went 3 operations and finally he seems to be happy now, but this is my last resort.

After speaking to a work colleague he gave me an idea which I'm willing to explore, the idea is to use human growth hormone therapy and physio to assist, any experienced users care to shed some light on this?could it help with these frequent dislocations?

I'm quite a health freak but I'd rather try this than under go 3 operations.

What to do?

Helpful info appreciated :)

Damn - Happens to me too.. once or twice a year, or more, especially when u have the arm in in a weird or high position - but it also happens when stretching.
Noticed that the ligament is slightly stronger, if I don't sleep with the arm stretched up - like under a pillow.
I haven't tried too hard to find a perm fix.. don't know what's out there either, but surgery isn't on the list for now either.

I had a problem with a dislocating shoulder many moons ago after I skied off a cliff in a white-out. After a couple years of it dislocating almost at will I went under the knife and they sorted it out nicely.

Goto physio to help strengthen your rotator cuff musles. He/She will give you exercises to keep on strengthening the musles. I had this problem after i got kicked in the shoulder. Now its fine.

Bond....James Bond.

once or twice a year I wouldnt be too stressed, but thats how mine started :( now I'm having dislocations atleast once every 2 weeks :(
Do not ignore this tho, all it has to take is one more dislocation and you could have the same problem as me.

LOL, soz didnt mean to laugh but that does sound like a James Bond stunt,
Glad u got it sorted, how long were u out of action for? and more importantly, how many ops? most importantly, is your shoulder as good as new or are you experiencing any sort of problems afterwards?(even if it's a slight pain in the winter for eg)

Thanks, as I said tho, I think I might have a birth defect if you will, I've never injured my shoulders for this to happen, it just started, like when i straighten my arm, I can almost bend my arm 1/4 of the way (if not more) to the opposite direction lol, maybe I'm missing tendons or muscles or something hehe, which could get sorted via Growth therapy (apparently) But yeah I'll go Physio 1st and then explore my options from there.

I was out of action for a few weeks, maybe a month but it was so long ago I'm not entirely sure. These days I think they do it laparoscopically so recovery time should be significantly reduced. I do get the occasional grating and clicking in the joint but all in all it's much better than before. One op.
Bond....James Bond.
Definitely not . . . well maybe Dalton's Bond, but certainly not Connery! :D

Yeah i would bet on missing/weak tendons/muscles, but dont take my word, i am definitely not a doctor :D
As you said in your OP, go for surgery as your absolute last option.
Good luck man, hope you get it sorted.

It also happens to me. Last year I dislocated my left shoulder swinging a cricket bat :(

My shoulder wants to pop out all the time but it never quite pops out but if i had to continue for example bench pressing heavyish weights it will eventually pop out.

I found doing push ups has helped.

Yo Vegeta, thanks for replying, funny you mention this, but I actively do pushups about 3times a week and consists of about 30 reps per set, I normally do about 5 sets until muscle failure, though it's helped strengthening my core and what not, my shoulders are also stronger but like last time I was playing squash and slightly bumped off the wall to get to the ball, and my shoulder popped out ! so I doubt pushups are working for my problem, but still enjoy doing pushups :)
