Cable Upgrade?

Came across this awhile ago (05 contract!) - any news that it is coming online?

Alcatel today announced that it has signed a multi-million US dollar turnkey contract with the SAT-3/WASC/SAFE* consortium to upgrade its submarine cable network. With completion scheduled in the last quarter 2006, the project will generate a quantum leap in available capacity on the system and will enhance international connectivity between West & Southern Africa, Europe and Asia. The upgraded network will also continue to operate as a back-up path for part of the Sea-Me-We 3 network between Europe and Asia, thus providing a highly reliable, alternative information highway for non-stop communications across half of the globe.

This will be great news if they did ... only problem might be that Telkom will claim that they can't bring the prices down because "they" must pay for the upgrade ... :(

The post is of an 05 contract - duly awarded and undertaken. For delivery now or "imminently" - so where is it?

The press release is dated 1 September 2005, and states completion "scheduled in the last quarter 2006". So expect some news around December.

Unless they're thinking financial years, in which case it could be as late as March 2007!
