okay so i installed ubuntu 6.10 from scratch, but firefox doesnt wanna load any https websites. google tells me a whole lotta stories and how to fix this, but none of them worked (reinstalling, uninstalling>installing, etc). anyone else had this problem and actually fixed it? oh btw, i'm a linux noob so be slow... ;)

I installed both Kubuntu 6.10 AND Ubuntu 6.10 (on separate partitions) for experimental reasons and I don't have any problems with Firefox (ver 2.0) on either of them.

BTW, I used the Alternate CD installation for both of them.

I suppose you could try re downloading Firefox off the Mozilla website - just remember with that file all you need to do is uncompress it and run the file ./firefox

If it still doesn't work then my guess is that it is a problem further up ... but I don't know too much about it

are you on iburst?

Did you install firefox through synaptic?

eureka!

hi guys, thanx for responding. i finally got it working!
it turned out that it wasnt just an ubuntu problem coz i also installed fedora core 6 to see if THAT would work, but alas, no luck. so after digging for a while i finally found a solution: i typed "about:config" in the firefox browser address bar, scrolled down to "network.dns.disableIPv6" and changed the value to "true". now all is happy and well. and i now have TWO linux distro's to play with ;)
