021 is a geographic range, at this time geographic number are portable. One day we will be able to port non geographic numbers like 086 and 087's but ICASA are involved so it will most probably be another year away.
Make sure you ask your new provider for the freeze dates if you plan to port in December or January.

I have a 021 number with Freshphones ( I got through them). Can I port that number to another provider?

I may be mistaken but I was under the impression that Freshphone only allows you to port away geographic numbers that you originally ported in (such as from Telkom).
You might be correct. I checked my invoice from them, they only list a 087 number and not the 021 number. That might be the issue.
Will get in touch with them. Reason I want to port away. Is that I started using it as my business number. But need more options. As its only for home use.

What options do you need? You can do a lot of with a Freshphone account and 3CX running on a Raspberry Pi.
