Has anyone here studied psychology?

I am curious to know what would happen if a girl's father is largely absent during her developmental phase, e.g. the phallic stage of development according to Freud's theory.

My wife is a Freud expert (did the first ever purely academic Masters research at Wits, on Freud). Just asked her and she says you definitely don't need Freud to tell you about the deleterious effects of absentee our remote fathers. After infancy and the correct developmental separations in healthy object formation (Klein), the father in fact plays a much bigger role in healthy development than the mother (probably not what you want to hear).

Would that be for girls or boys too?

Why do you assume to know what the OP wants to hear?

Yes.

Not assuming, just conjecturing, since the OP is evidently a woman and possibly a mother. It doesn't affect the main point.

I have no way of telling on Opera mini.

In my experience of "bad" girls there are almost always absentee father issues. I think boys have a better chance with a single mom if she is particularly strong willed and authoritarian where as girls do not respond well to an authoritarian mother.

Pure conjecture based on people I've known, though.

As the saying goes, only fathers can turn boys into men.

It is heartbreaking that less and less boys have an active, loving father who lives at home and models how to treat and love women (starting with mom), so they repeat the tragedy when they form their own families. It truly breaks my heart. Personal experience.

She grows up with daddy issues.

Wouldn't any father figure do? Mother's brother or father or even a male friend who's often around?

It can help a little. But it's no substitute. Ask any child who doesn't have a real father or mother. Some spend their whole lives trying to find their real mom or dad, especially dad. There's always a hole, and it pangs. Our identity is deeply tied up in our origins. And rightly so. That is how nature intended, for that is our design.
