Fridge keeps on tripping after the storm last week

Hi, so after the storm last week, my wireless equipment died, and the fridge that is connected to the same socked, trips the electricity in my house.

any idea what could be the problem? is it something i can fix myself?
is it going to be expensive....already had to buy a new ADSL modem

Edit: so the power doesn't trip immediately only after an hour or so.

But at a guess - the capacitor is stuffed.

The cap will assist to start the compressor. If the cap is stuffed, the compressor will pull a heck of as load and trip the board.

Rather get an appliance repair person out.

They'll be able to tell you whether or not it's worth it to fix the problem or not.

Do you have a multimeter.
Did the fridge became wet.
Is your earth leak tripping, or a plain trip switch.
Does it trip immediately or only after a while, does the compressor start to run, can you hear it.

Rather call out an appliance guy first - capacitor cost around R20 - R50 I guess.
If this is the problem will cost you less than the excess - probably?

but also check the plug - they come with factory fitteg plugs and these things pop when heavy power is run through it. first run an extension from a different source to the fridge and try it out. if it still happens, change the plug and try it
