Fridge not running

Hi all
The fridge has stopped working still have a working light but every minute I hear a click a slight whirr for 5 seconds and then it clicks silent again.Repeat.Any idea what the problem might be?

The compressor of the fridge is like a heart. Unfortunately, it had a heart attack and died. Probably need a new compressor.

When my fridge done the same as you describe the compressor needed to be replaced.

Yea I figured. is it worth replacing or just buying a new fridge?Whats the average cost of a compressor replacement.

What type of gas it use , should ve somewhere listed eg
R12 , r4xx etc
Newer models are alot more energy efficient.

We replaced our ancient fridge freezer with new model samsung, use 1/4 of the electricity and food inside lasting 2x longer than old one .

Google list motors between r600 and r1300 , it will need to be fitted and gassed , can easy be r2k to 2.5k

You need to ask yourself why did it break. No point in fixing something that is going to break again, unless it's dirt cheap. If the thermo or gaskets needs replacement, I do it myself. But if the compressor or gas leak. I buy a new fridge or a good secondhand one.
