My kid tripped over the power cord, i heard a little pop and could smell something burn.

Probably the power port that fried.... I'm hoping it can be fixed!
Anyone out there know of 'electronic shops' in Joburg that deals with circuit board repairs etc?

It should be repairable...

Personally, I had a 4TB harddrive PCB fry when a short in the PSU caused it to feed 12v down the 5v line. I found a place about 1km after the N1 off-ramp to the old Johannesburg Road opposite a PC repair shop.
Can't remember the name, but the guy was really friendly, and he replaced a SMD resistor with a through hole resistor that is working to this day.

Tho a "PCB repair johannesburg" google search should also work.
"Or" it could be a great excuse to upgrade to a Roku 4 ...
