Fried Router pots modem - the beige one

Hi there.

looks like i am going to have to buy a new modem today.
But before i do that.

the telkom techie eventually came to my house yesterday when i was not there, tested and said the line is working and though he was not prepared to touch or test with my modem, said that the fault is with my modem.

the power goes on, but the DSL LNK light just blinks green.
cant seem to get a connection to telkom.

could anything else be wrong with my modem settings or is it just going to be quicker to just buy a dlink modem tonight?

i was using the beige 1 port marconi telkom adsl router pots modem.......

So the TELKOM contractor wouldn't have a look at the TELKOM equipment.

The worst you can do is end up with a better router. I still have that Marconi Router and it is a piece of cr@p! If your line doesn't work after that then it is Telkom's fault.

I find that petrol and a zippo work well on these routers.

Good choices, and you should notice a slight improvement. I also found with the Marconi router that periodic resets were necessary when the latency got unbearable.

........and they just called me now, yes, telkom, offering me a free modem on a 1000000 year contract at a million $$$$$ a month.... hahahahahaha. i am so going to burn down the nearest telkom building tonight if i get home and the new modem still does not connect to telkom.

I had a router like this. The DSL link light flashes when it is not syncing. It should stop flashing (continuous green) when it syncs. In my experience, the router is faulty when only the power light comes on. Try Netgear or Linksys, they are pretty decent.

PS. Telkom either gives you the modem free or you buy it from them. It then becomes your equipment. Same as you buy a Sony TV at GAME. You don't burn down Game when your TV stops working.
