From 384 to 512... Is it worth it?

For browsing, I woudn't say its worth it. Although things can get quite sluggish when you have 3 or more users going nuts. If fast downloads are important to you, or you want to play online with more than 2 users on the same line... go for 512k.

you got to think from next month when the 384 will be less than half the price of 512. so for sure not. IF you want to download and then upload as well then the 256k upload speed is useful. The 384 upload speeds are useless.

Not for the price, for most users.

The biggest benefit is that the upload speed doubles. If you want to seed more torrents, or something, then I'd say it's worth it.

I think all 384's eventually will be 512...at 384 prices. That will be a not so big loss for telkom, and i think will be their answer if Neotel decide to come to the ...huh...funeral.

lol not everything downloads at over 400K:mad:

Just a question to the 4mb guys, is the international link actually even 4mb?

I always hear about the great news server speeds, but are normal international servers (that aren't cached) as fast, or close enough?

I'm wondering if 512 wouldn't just be the best bet, with the problems 384 guys are having (and the upload speed) and then the problems some 4mb users have with bad sync speed or instability.

theoretically i think its 640k upload, i stand corrected. on sum websites its stated as 256k, even on the 4MB line. any 4mb line user comments?

i upgraded from 384 to 512 about a year ago. and i can tell you it certainly is worth it. the price difference from 384 to 512 is certainly NOT that much, it is quite a leap to 4MB tho. plus rememeber once you on 4MB it means more money on accounts, so your monthly expenditure doubles or even triples.

on constant 53k downloads i do 4-4.5GB a day. a 30GB IS account lasts me 10 days roughly. currently there is nothing worthwhile to download so i am still on my first and only 30GB IS account with about 8GB left for the month.

Ok good to know. What will the price difference be from next month between the 384 and 512? Is it a big leap or not so much?

Not worth it.
I am considering downgrading mine to 384 again - save a packet.

And, with the general lethargy on IS backbone, 192 would still be sufficient.
