Hi all,

We had an SD PVR that we were using for our DSTV, with an HD PVR for xtraview.

Our SD PVR then stopped working and we took it in and got the explora replacement. We were then told we needed to get an installer in etc. In the meantime though, we changed the decoder we were using to the HD PVR.

Now, if I want to hook the explora up to the TV, how does it work? Do I still need to climb onto the roof and install the smart LNB or will the dual LNB work? If the dual will work, what do I need to do to get the unicable bit going?

P.S. I have never had to even look at a DSTV installation until now.

On the DSTV forum website its explained in depth.

The Explora decoders MUST be connected to unicable ports A, B, C, D on the SLNB. The Explora switch that previously came with the initial batches of Explora decoders is now redundant BUT DO NOT throw it out --- it is very useful, especially IF you want to go on holiday with your Explora decoder.

Older decoders that are SATCR capable (HD PVR 4 tuners, the HD PVR 2 tuners, and the 4136 single view HD decoder are all SACTR capable) can also be connected to ports A, B, C, D.

The 2 legacy ports on the SLNB can be used for the SD PVR and the older single view decoders, and the older dual view decoder.

2 Weeks ago I had a similar scenario. SD packed in. They gave us an explorer in its place. SO now I had to link up 2 exploras with extra view. I wouldn't even consider attempting the installation, anyhow got a DSTV guy in and they replaced a quad LNB with the smart LNB and linked it all up. If we didn't have the smart LNB he said we would have needed a multi switch or something which was a similar price to the smart LNB. Have no idea what he was going on about, So at the end of the day thats what I did to get mine working and I probably got ripped off in some way in the process and now I have lost a viewing environment - felt like I have taken 4 steps back - so annoying.

Soooo if anyone wants a quad LNB...... :p
