Front bumper/grille/bonnet protection

Hi everyone,

I'm driving from Cape Town to GP in a couple of days. Where can I get like a protector/cover for the front bumper/grille/bonnet...almost like you see on brand new cars sometimes before they get delivered? I want some protection against bugs/chips etc on the long trip.

I came across www.vpsprotection.co.za which has a branch in Brackenfell but they just too expensive for me right now. Any thoughts? Any DIY solutions that work well for you?
 
VPS is really the only route to go,but it is expensive. Once you start putting those rubbishy plastic "protectors" you are only buggering the car up more.

If you cannot afford VPS, make sure you have given the car a good polish before you leave, then wash all the rubbish off with warm water and a good car wax soap, and you won't have any problems.

Car "Bra's" are also available, but like the plastic stuff they just chafe at their edges and mess the car up even more.

That's all VPS is, a thin clear vinyl layer, but it works brilliantly for protecting the car from chips - even minor scrapes on the bumper won't bugger your paint up.

rofl got experience wearing bra's Fazda :D :p
 
you can buy some vinyl at maizeys and diy if u short of cash
it will help, but wont be as strong as the VPS
 
This is very low tech, but I saw a guy that duck taped bubble wrap to his bonnet for the trip. Worked like a charm though :)

That's usually to stop grass seed clogging the radiator and leading to overheating due to reduced airflow. Or to make it look like you're planning to go somewhere off road and cool. My Merc has more authentic mud than most 4x4s :-)

I'm not too concerned with how long it lasts or even how it looks...just some kind of protection from small chips and that horrible bug splatter. I'll take it off as soon as I return. Looks like that's the route I'm going to have to go then...DIY.

How do you get your merc offroad? They are so LOW! :p
