Front Row default directory for movies

Is there a way I can specify that FrontRow must look for movies on an external HD instead of the default /movies folder on the internal HD??
 
Here's how I did it - I created three folders one for series, one for movies, and one for my kids stuff. Then I created symlinks (or you can use aliases) to them in the ~/Movies directory.

Now that left me with a ~/movies/movies situation so I went into the frontrow package and renamed movies to something else.

EDIT - a frontrow tip - if you find that it takes a long time to scroll through the movies, because of the preview, consider putting each one inside it's own folder.

Yeah the problem is that Front Row is Database driven.
Audio it accesses your iTunes Library, Photo's and Slideshows is obviously your iPhoto library. Movies don't have a library and is just stored in your movies folder.

bwana had it right in making an aliases to the folder. I actually never thought Front row would be clever enough to see the shortcut but it does.

Another way is to enter Unix and run a unix command that reroutes your default Movies folder. The only problem is if you don't have the external storage plugged in and you try browse the movies folder it causes big problemo. So I'd rather not play around with it. :p
 
....and can you guys tell me how to point iPhoto to an alias on an external drive. I have a bunch of Webshots on the external which would look good cycling on the TV.
I tried to put the Webshots alias in the users/myname/pictures/iphoto Librabry/data but it aint working.
 
If you hold the option key down when you start iPhoto you can create a new library and/or point to an existing one. Simply set up a new library on your external and import all the pics into it.

Alternatively you could import the pictures into your existing library and archive them to cd/dvd and then delete them from the library. . . .

Alternatively you could stick your entire library onto the external drive. . .

Regardless of the method you need to import them into iPhoto.

Edit: Hmmm... The easiest was to create a new library on the external with all the photos. If needed, I just open iPhoto with the option key

there is another alternative - once you've imported the photos find the roll in the directory folder copy that across to the external and alias or symlink it
 
Front Row is disabled on the Mac Pro but I managed to hack it to get it to work, I love how it zooms in and out when you activate it. It makes a cool nifty sound too, whoosh.... :)
 
Careful if you use a mighty mouse and have front row hacked - iirc the two do not interact well at all.
