I am using Telkom's ADSL package and when I try and upload my web site to a web host in the US using FrontPage it times out right at the end and doesn't finish loading the vti files. Anybody know why this is? Is it because of the way that FrontPage is communicating with the host server and a low prioritization on the connection speed?

Thanks

It might be the prioritization, but try using different FTP modes. Passive mode can help. This is ofcourse if you are using FP's ftp capability. If not and you are using FP's own upload facility we need to know a bit more. I have had this kind of problem before when I used to work on FP and there are many reasons why it can fail. This can range from version differences, bandwidth issues and more. Which version of Frontpage are you using? Which version does the server in the US claim to support? Did you manage to get it right between your post and this one?

;o)

Hi antowan.

thanks for the reply. in the end i switched hosts and now i have a host with ms server and not linux server and it works like a dream so problem solved. i tried a couple of other hosts who also had linux servers but all the linux servers would time out and it will only work on iis because of the number of file i have on the web.

i'm using fp 2002 - thanks for the help. much appreciated.

With no knowledge of and not even wanting to understand the FP/IIS scenario, this sounds to me like typical M$ BS - 'feature-rich' enviro constraints uniquely meant for their products, but actually bug-ridden and standards-deviant - ah well, they believe they're a law unto themselves, much like Telkrap...
