Frustration as airline electronics ban comes into force

The US restrictions apply to flights originating from 10 airports in countries including Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
I need clarity on this. Since virtually all Emirates and Qatar (have never flown Turkey before) flights to the US go through DXB and Doha respectively, does that mean it applies to us (flights originate at ORT)?

I no longer take my laptop anywhere outside our borders. Not worth the time/effort any more.
Pretty dumb law. Having seen videos of baggage handlers, I'd rather carry my tablet onboard with me! Someone should tell them that there's nothing my Android tablets can do that my smartphones can't.

You cannot take your tablet in carryon as it is covered by the ban as are certain large phones
