I am unable to do FTP on MTN GPRS. It works on my LAN, on Vodacom 3G (Yes, I have both, I can actually compare) and on ISDN and 56 K dial-up.

It just hangs, doesn't establish the connection. I use port 21.

FTP Problems

Hi Magus,

Can you please tell me what APN you are using, what IP address you are being allocated when connected and what the IP address is of the FTP server that you are trying to FTP too.

Regards,

I don't know what APN means, but I dial *99#. The IP address I am assigned is 172.26.19.56.

I am trying to access FTP server 209.212.117.20

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the information provided will test it and let you know you shortly.

Hi Magus,

I have tested this using both Internet and mymtn APN and it works straight away.

If you still having problems, feel free to PM me with your contact details and I can do some traces while you are trying.

Regards,

FTP Access

your IP address is nated on the Public APN and therefore you would not be able to connect to the public address you are trying to connect to

So why does it work for MTN083? And presumably Vodacom will also NAT my IP address, and it works fine there. And lastly, I can hardly believe that I can't use FTP on MTN broadband. It is just not reasonable.

Apn

You are sitting on a completely different APN with vodacom
and MTN083 is probably using a Private APN.

So this measn that I will never be able to FTP with MTN Broadband? I want my money back.

Apn

I have just connected to the FTP site using the nated address
what are you dialing up with?

You are correct that your IP does get translated but this doesnt mean that the FTP shouldnt work.

What could possibly be happening is that you have a proxy enabled on your PC for your corprate LAN.

I have no proxies, nothing funny. And I repeat, it works on Vodacom 3G, ISDN, and dialup. With no changes to any part of my setup. Only on MTN does it not work.

Just an ordinary FTP site. In fact there are a number of them that I use regularly. I can't cconnect to any of them.

3G sim card in a Nokia 6630. Dial *99#. Browse the internet. Send and receive email. No FTP.

Magus. This is unusual so if you send me your phone number via my mybroadband private mail I can get someone to contact you.

Glad we managed to resolve this. The invitation is open to people to send me their problems and their MTN numbers via the mybroadband private mail for us to resolve
