Anybody noticed problems connecting to or downloading from ftp sites on iburst. Any http works fine but as soon as i try to access an ftp site the whole thing in most cases stalls. When downloading, if i finaly get one, i get massive interuptions. Ideas?

Btw no problems whatsoever with http download

I'm using flashget as a dnl manager and it's an exellent program.

But the problem is that i simply seem to have lost all access to any ftp site. As soon as the first word in the address line is ftp, the brouwser tells me the that the ftp transaction has started, than tells me that the transaction is finished and than stops with no result.

I have this problem with all my computers and all operating systems MS Win as well as with Linux and with all the brouwsers IE, Mozila, Mozilla FF, Seamonkey, Epiphany and Konquerer. Even updaters like Yum who work on ftp stop functioning.

I even changed routers but with no success.

Like I said no prob with any http so the only conclusion is that the problem lies with iburst, it looks like they are preventing ftp access.

So if anybody wants to try an address: ftp://ftp.is.co.za and tell me the results. Any other ftp site will do.

I had a weird error where if my ICS was enabled the ftp protocol was dead...disabling ICS fixed it.

Hi P0tenc,

Forgive my acronym blindness but what is ICS

Thanx btw for all the resposes.

A possible solution for you.

I sometimes find that some FTP servers are fussy about how you connect to them.

Try altering the "Passive transfer mode settings" between "Passive mode" or "Active mode". Most FTP managers like FileZilla have these options.

I use several FTP servers and some require active mode others require passive mode. Switching the options normally result in success, for my scenario anyway.

Sorry, no problems here.

Doesn't IS try open other ports for downloading - or am I thinking of somewhere/something else?
