FTP Uploading

Hi all

Just a quick question, generally how long should uploading a 500MB file via FTP on a 10Mbps Uncapped account take?

Depends on the ISP. But a 10Mbps line should give you 512kbps-1024kbps upload. this equals 64kBps-128kBps = 1 - 2.5hours

Yep. It is extremely slow. Wish Telkom can increase that as it is quite an issue.
Apparently you can get better upload speeds via 3G.

On my CellC 3G, at this moment it is 5.5mb down and 1.9mb up. But that is just luck. In 30 mins it might be half that

We had to ditch our ADSL at work for fixed Wireless for the same reason. because the wireless gives us 4Mbit down and 4mbit up.

its at least 8 times faster than out 10mbit ADSL for uploads. it runs at 3.8Mbit for uplaod vs our old ADSL at 0.41Mbit
