Even though an area isn't highlighted on the coverage map for vumatel you can still register your interest i think. Vredekloof wasn't highlighted on that map even after it had reached enough sign ups.

My side of the road where they are laying fiber as not earmarked for fiber, but they are already installing.

I'm thinking we won't get fibre in Oakdale for the next 3-5 years (if not longer)

I do see movement on the FTTH scene but it's moving slowly and only in the "Laanie" areas. Areas where it's gated community's or newly Built complexes or New Areas where the new lines are installed as "The standard"

Fibre optics is a standard <- Very high one

I'm also in Oakdale and stuck on ADSL 10mbit (my area says VDSL upto 10mbit... no one knows if we can actually use a VDSL modem)

We still in the same boat. No Fibre in Oakdale.

I see Vumatel reps walking around with clipboards. They're trying to gauge interest to see if they should bring fibre to Oakdale area. Hopefully enough people say yes!

I did see a Mweb pamphlet in my postbox the other day. But not sure if people are registering online at the right places?

I think people register at vumatel.. other register at darkfibre and others openserve.. so it's scattered all over. So it's not one ISP that see's there are 300people interested. You see 100 here maybe 50 at other provider. 30 at Cybersmart.. etc..etc

From Cybersmart's Lightspeed website, it shows that they now cover the whole Bellville (including Oakdale). I didn't see any digging though :

I emailed Cybersmart... They said.. this is the area they want to cover (but...) they need R17500 commitment monthly from your street.
They need that.. to be able to put down a node and start digging.

So that's maybe R1000 packages x 17 houses.. or 25houses of R700+-

Good day

Does anyone perhaps have an ETA to go-live date. I was once informed end August or early september. I dont Facebook so I am not certain if there is a group monitoring the progress

I find it ironic that both the Telkom IT building as well as SAIX are in Oakdale, yet it seems a lot of people living in the area do not have Telkom fibre

Nothing about Telkom surprises me anymore.. I saw them install a new msan 100m from my place a few months ago and I thought hey, fibre, cool..

Nope...

I am still on ADSL, not even VDSL and that brand new MSAN is currently, and has been for almost two months, being powered by a petrol generator..

Every time my internet dies, the Genny broke or ran out of petrol...

so it appears we are almost @ the home stretch, last testing and fixing before hand-over and then scheduling home installs get cracking.

To make the last little Corner there live.. lucky..

Still waiting for enough interest for them to come down towards me at Mike pienaar.. still need 383 signups.. :(
That's not good. Goodwood qualified in February already and we were told to wait for the build to progress from Oakdale side.

Oakdale, the wait is officially over. Got my fibre installed last week, got my router today. Can't wait to test it out tonight.

Question: The CPE box is installed. the FX light is not on, and the power is blinking blue, is that normal immediately after the install ?
