FTTH Connection Question

Hi there. My optical light on my ONT has recently been going red for at least 2 hours a day and sometimes the whole day. Does anyone know if a SC connector works the similar as a optical audio connector where it transmits via light? As my ONT light is red and there is no light coming out the optical port
