FTTH seems to be the better option to go with regards to internet access at home. The ADSL Line is just endless issues of speed and I dont think it is
acceptable that one needs to log continuous calls with the likes of telkom (insert alternate name here - starts with an H).
I live in Big Bay Cape Town (Near Bloubergstrand) and recently noticed that my current ISP (MWEB) is offering FTTH in the area. I believe through Octotel.
I don't really need lightning fast speed (Currently on a UP TO 8 mbps Uncapped with ADSL Line). Only use internet access for basics (No Gaming).

Please assist to demystify:
1) Which FTTH SP would you recommend? Stick with Mweb (offering a R500 discount on an installation cost of R1650 (Sux).
2) Does it mean that only certain SP's operates in certain areas?
3) Perhaps more viable in the long run to rather go the route of wireless internet access (eg Sonic ETC)
4) Rather the Telkom LTE at R249 plus R50 for 500g of data valid for a month? The speed of this will be interesting to follow.

We spend so much money on internet access in South Africa - probably the most expensive compared to the world.
All because so many people wants a piece of the pie. . . .

1. I'd much rather go with Cool Ideas. Go to Octotel website and they will list all other partners that can run over their infrastructure.
2. Certain providers have certain areas yes, certain providers also have certain ISPs that can operate over those lines. Your fibre provider i.e. Octotel and others usually have the supported ISPs listed on their site.
3. Wireless internet is never more "viable", you can get 10/5 uncapped, unshaped for R599 be it slower than Wireless you going to have far less problems IMO.
4. The R50 promo is only midnight to 7am times so if you don't have someone for the day then it's useless.

IMO if you can get fibre get fibre, it's amazing. We run 100mbps at home and never once looked back one bit, touch wood it's been far more reliable than our old copper lines too.

Did anyone mention Cool Ideas? always the ISP for Fibre if its supported by the line operator

Thanks for all the great feedback :).
